Does Quora content get cited in AI search answers?
Quora shows up often in Google's AI Mode, appearing in about 1 of every 14 answers by Semrush's analysis of 26,000 cited Quora URLs, and its share swings hard by platform, with Ahrefs' data showing AI Mode citing Quora 3.5 times more often than Google's standard AI Overviews. What gets a specific Quora answer cited has more to do with how the community rates it than who wrote it, since nearly 90 percent of the cited answers were labeled "Most Relevant" by Quora's own algorithm. Quora is a place where buyers ask the questions AI tools draw on, and a brand cannot post into it and expect a citation.
Key takeaways
- In Semrush's study, Quora appeared in about 1 of every 14 Google AI Mode answers, the 4th most-cited domain there.
- AI Mode cited Quora 3.5 times as often as AI Overviews, and we found no Quora study for ChatGPT or Perplexity.
- Nearly 90 percent of the cited Quora answers were labeled "Most Relevant" by Quora's own algorithm.
- A brand's answer is one reply among dozens, and Quora's readers decide where it sits in the thread.
How often does Quora actually show up in AI answers?
In Google AI Mode, Quora appeared in about 7.25 percent of answers in Semrush's study, roughly 1 in 14. That made it the 4th most-cited domain there.
Semrush's study of Google AI Mode analyzed 278,279 unique prompts and found 26,000 Quora URLs cited a combined 20,189 times. The research team also spoke with Quora's team for the piece, which Semrush published on September 29, 2025.
The threads those citations came from were busy ones. They averaged 37 replies and 15 upvotes, and the cited answers ran at least 535 words.
Fourth is a ranking inside one product. A post that calls Quora the most cited domain in AI search is stretching a figure Semrush measured in Google AI Mode alone. We asked the same question about another forum in our piece on Reddit and AI search.
Does Quora's citation rate differ between ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Mode?
Within Google alone it differs a lot, with AI Mode citing Quora 3.5 times more often than standard AI Overviews in Ahrefs' data. We found no comparable study for ChatGPT or Perplexity.
Ahrefs' Brand Radar data, as Search Engine Journal reported on December 15, 2025, covered 540,000 query pairs from September 2025. Beyond Quora, it found the two Google surfaces cited identical URLs only 13 percent of the time.
So two answer products from the same company mostly draw on different pages. Our piece on whether ChatGPT and AI Overviews cite the same sites looks at that gap across companies.
For ChatGPT and Perplexity we have no Quora figure to give you. We did not find a study that measures it, and we would not carry the AI Mode number over when it moves this far between two products made by one company.
What makes one Quora answer get cited over another?
Community response, as far as Semrush's data shows. Nearly 90 percent of the cited answers were labeled "Most Relevant" by Quora's own algorithm.
That label is Quora's own sorting of a thread. Put it next to the thread averages and the cited answers look like ones Quora readers had pushed up.
The answer also does not come through word for word. Semrush found that AI Mode's generated text shared less than 50 percent overlap with the Quora reply it cited, so the model paraphrases. Someone reading the AI answer gets the idea and the link in Google's wording.
Semrush's study is the only one we found that ties specific answer traits to AI Mode citation. It describes what cited answers looked like. Whether more upvotes on an answer would cause a citation is a question it leaves open.
Should a brand post on Quora to try to get cited?
We would answer questions there only where your team can write the most useful reply in the thread, and we would never post promotional answers to chase a citation. The traits tied to citation come from the community, so no one can promise one.
Go back to the 37 replies. A brand's answer becomes one of them, and where it sits depends on how readers and Quora's algorithm rate it. Who wrote it does not appear among the traits Semrush tied to citation.
That makes Quora worth reading before it is worth posting on. The questions there are ones buyers ask in their own words, and those are the threads AI Mode drew on. The cited answers ran at least 535 words, which is far from a two-line reply with a link to a product page. Our piece on G2 and Capterra reviews looks at another place where buyers, more than brands, write the text.
Corvan's AI search ranking work sets a baseline on day one, restructures content for models, earns citations in trusted sources, and reports answer share every month against where you started. That work takes one to three months to show movement.

FAQs about Does Quora content get cited in AI search answers
1. Is Quora the most cited site in AI search?

2. Does Google AI Mode quote Quora answers word for word?
No. Semrush found the generated answer text shared less than 50 percent overlap with the Quora reply it cited, which means the model paraphrases.
3. Can posting on Quora get my brand cited by ChatGPT?
We found no study that measures Quora citations in ChatGPT, so we cannot say. In Google AI Mode, the cited answers were mostly ones Quora's algorithm had labeled most relevant, and no one can promise a citation.
